Amman : Iraqis entering Jordan no longer need to present the so-called “nationality certificate document”, along with their passports, local daily Jordan Times Sunday quoted Iraqi ambassador to Jordan Saad Hayani as reporting.
The envoy said on Saturday that Jordanian Prime Minister Nader Dahabi has agreed to a request made by his Iraqi counterpart Nourial-Maliki during his two-day visit to the country.
The nationality certificate, which proves that the holder is an Iraqi national, was issued to Iraqis before the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq.
Meanwhile, Jordan has officially informed the Iraqi side that the government decided to extend a June deadline, whereby Iraqis holding “S” series passports were to be denied entry, to the end of December.
After the December deadline, only Iraqis with “G” series passports will be allowed to apply for a visa to enter Jordan.
The new passport was introduced last year after several Western and European countries refused to accept the older edition, citing security concerns.
Substandard security features and a lack of control over production and issuance make the “S” series passport extremely vulnerable to alteration, counterfeiting and impostors, according to the U.S. government.
