Coimbatore : Saurabh Bahuguna became the second golfer in as many weeks to win his maiden title, as he sealed the title at the LG Coimbatore Amateur Open Friday. Dedicating the win to his first baby his wife is expecting in August, Saurabh shot a final round of two-over 74 for a four-day total of 11-over 299.
Saurabh, who started the day three clear of second placed Vikram Rana (77) won by a whopping six shots. Rana totalled 17-over 305.
Saurabh was the second player in as many weeks to win his maiden title, after Gagan Verma won the Southern India Open last week in Bangalore.
Both Saurabh and Rana, playing in the final group, are from ONGC.
“It feels really great to finally win,” said Saurabh who had missed out on a title in the opening event after having led till the 65th hole. “I ensured that no such thing happened to me here as I had decided to play it cool,” added the winner.
Vikram had to settle for the second place along with H.S. Kang (76) at 305. Gagan Verma (76) was fourth at 306 while Moin Malak (82) and Tarun Ghogale (73) were tied for the fifth place at 309.
Abhinav Lohan produced the day’s best card of 1-under 71 to finish seventh with an overall total of 310. Simarjeet Singh and Pritam Haridass were tied for the eight place at 311 while No.1 Abhishek Jha finished 10th at 312.
“The key to victory was that I did not put pressure on my self as I had done last time,” admitted Saurabh.
