Israel bombed the Kibar site in a desert area in north-eastern Syria in September and the US claims that it is a nuclear facility built with North Korean help.

The US released pictures in April, which it claimed showed nuclear experts from North Korea at the Kibar site. Washington also claims that the facility resembles the design of a North Korean reactor at Yongbyon.

But Syria denies the allegations, saying the bombed site was an unused military facility.

Damascus agreed to allow the IAEA team access to Kibar, but said it would not let them visit any other sites.

IAEA chief, Mohammed al-Baradei, called on the Syrians to cooperate and show “absolute transparency” and to allow the watchdog team access to all sites they are interested in examining.
