Luxembourg : Iranian defence of its peaceful nuclear program is shattered by European Union plans to approve new economic sanctions to make it quit uranium enrichment.
EU Fishing and Agriculture ministers gathered in this capital plan to approve sanctions against Melli Commercial Bank, with branches in London, Hamburg and Paris.
The punishment list includes enhancing the list of people and institutions without a right to entry visas, matching US actions following accusations that Tehran tries to develop N-arms.
The EC postponed enforcement of similar accords approved in May to prevent tensions in the June 14 visit by EU High Commissioner for Foreign Affair and Common Security Javier Solana.
Solana submitted a proposal from the Group of Six (Russia, China, France, Britain, the US and Germany) to allegedly negotiate but the media claims that Tehran gave no answer.
Iran says that as signatory of the Non Proliferation Treaty has a right to use N-energy in peaceful projects and produce uranium to fuel its N-plants.
The US pressed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to take Iran’s case to the Security Council that imposed sanctions in 2006 yet the IAEA says it lacks evidence on Iran’s alleged plans to develop mass weapons.
