The Russian Foreign Ministry referring to the news on survey over a Bill on halting US-Russia peaceful nuclear cooperation at the US Congress due to Moscow’s nuclear cooperation with Iran, argues that Washington’s accusations against Russia are totally baseless.

Moscow adds that Russian Federation’s peaceful nuclear cooperation agreement with the United States is devised in a way to serve the interests of both countries, adding, “Neither side should therefore be seeking to punish the other side for any excuse, whatsoever.” Russia’s nuclear cooperation agreement with United States that was signed in early May, 2008, was forwarded to the US Congress a few days later by the US President for confirmation.

According to Russia’s Ria-Novosti news agency, some US Congress members who are opposed to the implementation of the US-Russia nuclear cooperation agreement have now proposed a precondition for surveying that agreement, which is the elimination of worries related to Russia’s nuclear cooperation with Iran.

Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ivanov, too, here Wednesday reiterated that Russia’s nuclear cooperation with Iran, particularly regarding the completion of Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Reactor, is quite unrelated to Russia’s nuclear cooperation agreement with the United States.

He said, “Construction work in Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Reactor is under full supervision of the IAEA and the Americans have repeatedly mentioned that it is an exception among the rest of Iran’s nuclear activities.”
