Baghdad : The Al Qaeda in Iraq Saturday claimed responsibility for Thursday’s suicide attack in Anbar province that killed 20 people including US soldiers.
In a statement posted on the Internet, the self-styled Islamic State in Iraq (as the group calls itself) said a member of its suicide squad blew himself up among dozens of people attending a meeting in the town council of Garmah, near the city of Fallujah, some 50 km west of Baghdad.
A US military statement Friday said three of its soldiers and two interpreters were killed in the attack.
A police officer said the soldiers were attending a meeting with the leaders of counter-insurgency group Awakening Council when a suicide bomber wearing a military uniform detonated his explosive belt inside the building.
Some 20 people were killed, including members of the local unit of the Awakening Council, while 20 others were wounded.
