New Delhi : As many as 54 security personnel were feared drowned Sunday in a Maoist attack on a reservoir in the eastern Indian state of Orissa.
The incident occurred in Orissa’s southern district of Malkangiri, where the boat carrying the security personnel came under Maoist attack, Press Trust of India reported, quoting a top police official.
Of the 64 security personnel on board, eight managed to swim ashore with bullet injuries while a search operation was launched to trace the missing policemen, the official added.
The security personnel were on their way to carry out an operation against the Maoists along Orissa’s border with Andhra Pradesh, a southern Indian state.
