They came to know about it through news reports in print and electronic media. Soon they met the defense lawyer Shahid Azmi and decided to approach the court on this matter.

According to Azmi, around forty people who have been found guilty in the cases of local train blasts, Malegaon bomb blast and the case of keeping illegal arms and ammunition in Aurangabad, were transferred from the Arthur Road Jail of Mumbai to the jails in Nagpur, Kolhapur and Ratnagiri.

He further told that these prisoners asked the jail authorities about the reason for their transfer, as there was no instruction from the court in this concern, nor the authorities took permission from the court before the transfer.

According to Azmi, prisoners sustained severe injuries during the transfer from the Arthur Road Jail to other jails of Maharashtra. The police have left the seriously injured prisoners in the Arthur Road Jail.
