Ramallah : Palestinian security forces arrested two members of the Islamic Resistance Movement or Hamas in West Bank, the Hamas said in a statement on Thursday.
According to the statement, the detentions took place in Nabluscity. The West Bank forces, loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah, arrested Hamas supporters and members for political motivation related to the Islamic movement’s takeover of Gaza Strip more than a year ago.
Meanwhile, Hamas said that the continuation of the detentions amongst its supporters “was a negative indication that doesn’t go with the efforts and hopes that started to spread among the Palestinian people,” adding that the detentions “serve the agenda of the Israeli occupation.”
Last month, Abbas said he was ready to resume talks with Hamas which routed his forces and ousted his movement from Gaza. Hamas, which controls Gaza, welcomed the call but offered nothing on the ground.
Hamas called on Abbas and his security forces in West Bank “to review this behavior in a way pushing the positive efforts towards the reconciliation.”
Abbas formed a western-backed government based in West Bank while Hamas continued to rule Gaza.
Nowadays, Hamas has taken over Abbas offices in Gaza again and turned them to headquarters for its forces in a move that puts more obstacles on the way for reconciliation.
