Lucknow : Water levels in the rivers of Uttar Pradesh that have been in spate for the last few days have started receding as the heavy rains in the state have subsided, officials here said Monday.
“The Saryu river is still flowing above the danger mark, but today we recorded a decline in the water level of the river,” Faizabad district magistrate Anil Garg told IANS.
Similarly, the water level in the turbulent Sharda river in Lakhimpur district has started receding. “We expect the situation will become better in the next few days,” Lakhimpur district magistrate Pinkey Jowel said.
Following heavy rains Saturday, the Saryu was flowing 13 cm above the red mark while the Sharda river in Paliyakal of Lakhimpur Kheri was flowing two cm above the danger point, officials said.
According to the Met department officials, the intensity of rainfall will subside in nearly all districts of the state. However, some eastern districts may witness moderate rains in the next 24 hours.
“The continuity of rains in Uttar Pradesh will subside as the upper air cyclonic pressure has become weaker during the last few hours,” state Met office director L.C. Ram said in the afternoon.
