G8 reaches agreement on goals for greenhouse gas emission reductions by 2050

Toyako, Japan : Leaders of the G8 countries have reached agreement on the long-term target for greenhouse emission cut by 2050, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said Tuesday.

“I am very happy about the results of the G8 on climate change. The EU’s benchmark for success at this summit has been achieved,” Barroso said in a statement shortly after a working session with G8 leaders in Toyako.

Leaders at the G8 working session also agreed that they should set up mid-term targets, “as the EU is already establishing for 2020,” he said.
