Thiruvananthapuram : The Congress party in Kerala Tuesday said it wouldn’t be surprised if the Left parties now teamed up with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after having withdrawn support to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
Terming the withdrawal of support by the Left as “expected”, state Congress chief Ramesh Chennithala told reporters here: “Don’t we know these Left (parties) better than anyone else? And don’t be surprised if the Left decides to join hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).”
“It is this very same Left which joined hands with the BJP to prop up the V.P. Singh government. … Whatever happens, we are confident that (prime minister) Manmohan Singh’s government will have no problem.”
The Left Democratic Front (LDF), led by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), and the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) are the two rival political alliances in Kerala.
