Patna : Stray dogs in Patna will now be vaccinated against rabies and wear badges proclaiming that they are free from the deadly disease, officials said Sunday.
The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) will carry out the anti-rabies vaccination drive and canines getting the shot will be given badges in order to differentiate them from the rest.
The corporation has also decided to encourage people to adopt stray dogs.
Bihar Urban Development Minister Ashwani Kumar Chaubey said the government would draw up a concrete plan for the upkeep of stray dogs.
"The government will involve dog lovers, canine clubs and NGOs for their well-being," he said.
Veterinary experts have lauded the PMC's move of vaccinating stray dogs instead of killing them.
