Istanbul : Four Turkish policemen were severely wounded in an armed attacked on the US Consulate in Istanbul on Wednesday, a Turkish security source said.
NTV quoted witnesses as saying that the four policemen were rushed to hospital for treatment.
The perpetrators remain unknown, according to the television station.
Istanbul Security Chief Jalaleddin Jarrah arrived on the scene to oversee investigations, and Turkish security forces formed a human fence around the consulate building to keep people away.
