Damascus : Syrian Information Minister Mohsen Bilal said that his country has no problems opening embassies between Damascus and Beirut, noting that Syria has already called for this step.
The Minister said in a press release that his country is working toward responding to Lebanese requirements on the issue, including topics which would end tension and boost Lebanese national unity and stability amid the new presidential era of Lebanon.
Bilal added that the Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al-Mu’alem will carry an invitation for Lebanese President Michel Sleiman which is a measure in accordance with Syrian legal and constitution.
Regarding Syrian and US relations, the minister expressed hope that the upcoming US administration has “a better understanding of the world, away from a war mentality and open to peace.”
Bilal noted that negotiations with Israel concerning withdrawals from Arab lands and peace talks in the region has been belated until a new US administration comes to office.
