Kuala Lumpur : A desperately ill Malaysian Indian woman suffering from kidney failure has sought the help of the public and the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) for raising funds so she can be treated in an Indian hospital.
P. Sivasakthi tried the traditional medicine route but now finds that she can no longer avoid dialysis, surgery and a possible kidney transplant.
According to MIC Youth Wing Coordinator T. Mohan, who sent out an appeal, Sivasakthi has used up her husband’s provident fund money and most of the family’s savings for the thrice a week dialysis that costs about $650 a month.
Her brother was willing to donate one kidney if the expenses, estimated at $23,000, were taken care of, The Star said Wednesday.
The family from Puchong, Selangor state, has two sons who have just begun earning enough to take care of the day-to-day expenses, the newspaper said.
MIC, that traditionally speaks for Malaysia’s two million-plus ethnic Indians, takes up hardship cases by making its contribution and then makes public appeals.
