Lt-Gen Saif Abdullah Al Sha’afar, the Under Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, signed for the UAE side, while Mohammed bin Sultan Albusaidi, Under Secretary of the Omani Ministry of Interior, signed on behalf of Oman here Tuesday.

The border line extends for a distance of 272 kilometres in this sector and has been marked out on the ground with major and minor border posts.

As a result of this agreement, the United Arab Emirates has now completed the delineation of all of its land borders with the Sultanate of Oman.

“The signing is a culmination of the agreement signed 2002 in Abu Dhabi between the two countries who enjoy historic fraternal bonds,” Al Sha’afar said.

Albusaidi said the agreement was made to set the record straight and to guarantee rights of the citizens in the two brotherly countries.

“We in the Sultanate of Oman cherish our strong fraternal ties with our brothers in the UAE,” he added.

In Riyadh, Abdul Rahman bin Hamad Al Attiyah, Secretary-General of the GCC, Tuesday congratulated President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed on the signing of the agreement.

He praised the role played by the two leaders in further deepening ties among the GCC countries.
