Lucknow : The Samajwadi Party Friday hit out against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, accusing her of siphoning off money meant for flood relief and implicating Samajwadi Party leaders in fake criminal cases.
“On the pretext of carrying out relief work in flood-hit areas, Mayawati is siphoning off crores (millions) of rupees from the government exchequer,” acting state Samajwadi Party president Shivpal Singh Yadav told reporters at a press conference.
Yadav said when his party comes to power it would act against Mayawati.
He said Mayawati and her Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) were not serious about development of the state. “The chief minister has not yet met any of the opposition leaders or public representatives ever since she took charge in May 2007.”
He accused Mayawati of falsely implicating hundreds of Samajwadi Party leaders, including parliamentarians and legislators, in criminal and other cases.
“There are as many as 14,000 fake cases registered against our party’s leaders and activists. After being instructed by Mayawati senior police officials are registering fake cases against our men,” said Yadav.
“Mayawati is running her government with the support of criminals and anti-social elements,” he added.
“Mayawati lured several jailed parliamentarians by offering them money so that they vote against the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government over the nuclear deal issue,” said Yadav.
Asked about the growing closeness between the Samajwadi Party and Congress, Yadav said: “The future relations between the two parties as well as what action should be taken against those party parliamentarians who cross-voted during the trust vote will be decided by our leaders at a national-level meet.”
