Responding to journalists after meeting Mubarak Sunday, Abbas said he believes that there should be no problem as the Palestinian dialogue was in line with the endeavours exerted for the release of the detained Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, the release of Palestinian prisoners as well as the issue of opening the crossings.

He said that such initiatives were within the framework of an Egyptian effort that was being undertaken in a parallel direction, and do not override other issues.

He noted that under the Arab initiative, Egypt starts calling for dialogue between Palestinian parties, adding that Egypt decided to initiate in the next few days the Palestinian-Palestinian dialogue.

Regarding the recent blast witnessed in Gaza, Abbas described what happened as “unfortunate and extremely painful” and not condoned by the Authority nor the Palestinian people. “But at the same time we do not accept accusations and counter-accusations as well as charges by the Hamas group to accuse Fatah or its bodies for such explosions.”

He emphasized the desire to re-unify the Palestinian ranks by all means “but not through killing, violence or internal fighting.”
