India protests unprovoked firing along LoC

New Delhi : India Tuesday lodged a strong protest over the unprovoked firing by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir in which one Indian soldier and four Pakistani troops were killed.

The protest was lodged when Indian Director General of Military Operations Lt Gen A.S. Sekhon spoke to his Pakistani counterpart Maj Gen Nasir Janjua on the hotline, a defence ministry official said.

In a statement issued here, Defence Minister A.K. Antony said: “Pakistan must fully respect the ceasefire agreed to between the two sides and adhere to the already existing mechanism” to deal with border violations.

The Indian Air Force, meanwhile, categorically denied reports of Indian air space being violated by a Pakistani aircraft Tuesday.
