Lucknow : Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav Wednesday said he is not a contender for a ministerial seat even if his party decides to join the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) coalition led by the Congress party.
He stated that neither has the UPA government invited the Samajwadi Party nor is his party keen to join the government.
“If at all there is a one percent chance of our joining (the government), then I will not hold any portfolio,” Yadav told reporters here Wednesday.
Yadav criticized Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for wasting public money in building parks and installing statues.
“She should deposit the money in the government treasury from her personal treasury and stop wasting the hard earned money of the common people,” said Yadav.
Yadav also warned the chief minister of a similar demolition drive (against her own statues that she has erected) if the Samajwadi Party comes back to power in the state.
“She is encroaching upon public lands and is razing the constructions done by the Samajwadi Party regime. We will depute over 50 bulldozers and raze all the constructions done by her if we get another chance,” said Yadav.
Yadav demanded thar Mayawati lift the ban imposed on the establishment of the Jai Prakash Narayan Adhyayan Kendra (literary institute), a research centre named after socialist leader Jai Prakash Narayan.
“The centre was proposed to be of international level and my government had then granted Rs.17 crore (Rs.170 million) for it. About Rs.2 crore (Rs.20 million) was also released but the project came to a stop with the change of guard in the state,” said Yadav.
