Dubai : Emirates has set up an inflight mobile phone call service with the ground in its Boeing 777-300 fleet after successfully introducing the system on board its Airbus fleet earlier this year, WAM reported Friday.
The inflight mobile phone technology will offer greater services and additional communications channels to Emirates’ passengers, Patrick Brannelly, vice president, Passenger Communications and Visual Services, said.
The Boeing 777-300 carrying the new system is operating on several Emirates routes, including services to Europe and Australia.
The inflight mobile phone technology was created by AeroMobile.
This is the first time that such services have been implemented on Boeing 777 commercial flights anywhere in the world.
Previously, the AeroMobile system was launched with Emirates in March, when it was installed on one of the airline’s Airbus A340-300 aircraft, enabling the world’s first authorised mobile phone calls on a commercial flight.
