New Delhi : A 45-year-old jeweller Saturday accused his former servant of throwing acid on him and looting 130 grams of gold from his shop in the Paharganj area of the walled city, police said.
Musharraf Ali alleged that Sharaful, whom he had sacked last year, came with three of his friends to his shop in Chandiwali Gali the jeweller to reinstate him.
Sharaful, 24, had worked at Ali’s shop for six years and was staying in the neighbourhood.
Ali said that when he refused, the four men men threw acid on his hands and fled from the spot. The victim, in his police complaint said he checked his shop soon after and found 130 gm of gold and some silver missing.
Ali was taken to a hospital where he was treated and soon discharged.
A senior police officer, however, termed Ali’s version as suspicious.
“Shopkeepers in the area have denied any such incident happened. The nature of acid burns also suggests that it could be a mere accident. We have detained Sharaful and a case has been registered,” the officer said.
“We will arrest Sharaful only after we verify the entire matter,” the officer added.
