Baghdad : A roadside bomb explosion struck an Iraqi army patrol in eastern Baghdad on Monday, killing two people and wounding 22 others, an Interior Ministry source said.
The bomb explosion hit the military patrol in Palestine Street near Mustansriyah University, killing a soldier and a civilian, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Nine soldiers and 13 civilians were wounded by the blast which damaged a military vehicle and several nearby civilian cars, the source said.
In a separate incident, another roadside bomb struck a police patrol in Baghdad’s southern district of Doura, damaging a police vehicle and wounding two policemen aboard, the source added.
On Sunday night, a roadside bomb detonated at about 9:00 p.m. (2100 GMT) near a police patrol vehicle in the town of Mahaweel, some 70 km south of Baghdad, wounding four policemen and three civilian bystanders, he said, citing local police.
Monday’s attacks came a day after a car bomb explosion struck a passport office in the Sunni neighborhood of Adhamiyah in northern Baghdad, killing 12 people and wounding 22 others.
Sporadic attacks continue in Iraq despite the U.S. and Iraqi officials’ announcement of a relative lull in violence during the past months.
