Seven injured in poll-related violence in Chennai

"MMK volunteers objected to alleged bogus voting by DMK workers, leading to a violent clash between the two groups at Ice House (in central Chennai)," a police official said. "Swords, wooden clubs and stones were used during the fight. Police reinforcements were rushed to the spot to contain the violence," he added. No arrests have been made so far.

The unanimous decision of the VNSS for the shutdown was announced by senior Congress leader and former state minister Ranjit Deshmukh, party MPs from the region Vilas Muttemwar and Datta Meghe, and several legislators from other parties, barring the Shiv Sena and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena.
