By IANS, Kolkata : Mamata Banerjee, chief of West Bengal's principal opposition Trinamool Congress, Saturday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the Raj Bhawan during his visit here. "We discussed issues like the (ruling) Communist Party of India-Marxist supported police atrocities on the tribal community at Lalgarh and demanded centre's intervention in these issues," Banerjee told reporters after emerging from the meeting. A seven-member team headed by Banerjee came to the governor's house at 7.15 pm. The meeting lasted for around half-an-hour.

By IANS, Jaipur : One man was killed as police opened fire on a mob trying to capture a booth, while stray incidents of stone throwing and booth capturing were reported in Rajasthan, where polling for the state's 25 parliamentary seats was underway Thursday, officials said. The turnout in the first six hours was 26 percent. "Some incidents of stone pelting and booth capturing have been reported. Around 26 percent of over 36 million voters had cast their votes till 1 p.m.," an Election Commission official told IANS.
