Alert in Bihar on Babri demolition anniversary
By IANS,
Patna: Bihar was on high alert Sunday on the 17th Babri mosque demolition anniversary and additional forces were deployed in communally sensitive areas to prevent any trouble, police said.
Bihar police chief Anand Shankar said all senior police officials at district levels have been directed to monitor the situation and keep a close watch on anti-social elements.
All district superintendents of police have been ordered to deploy additional forces at places of worship, railway stations and important government installations.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Pravin Togadia had Saturday reiterated at a Bajrang Dal meeting that the VHP stands firm for the construction of a Ram Temple at Ayodhya.
After his speech, authorities had banned rallies in Patna Sunday. Ram Kripal Yadav of the main opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) had demanded that Togadia be arrested for his inflammatory utterances.
