New Delhi: To build up pressure on the Central Government during the concluding Budget Session, All India Milli Council (AIMC) along with other Muslim and Dalit organizations called a press conference on Thursday, the day Parliament resumed for the session, to reiterate their demand for sub-quota for Muslims, Dalits and other minorities in the Women Reservation Bill (WRB).
Reiterating the standpoint of AIMC and other organizations, Dr. Manzoor Alam, General Secretary, Milli Council said, “I have just come back from the trip of different states in both North and South India, and during my meeting with individuals and organizations belonging to Muslims and other minority and marginalized sections of the society in context with the Women Reservation Bill, I found a severe resentment among them over the passage of the said bill by Rajya Sabha in its present form.”

Warning the government, Dr. Alam said, “If government does not consider the majority’s demand for amendment in WRB to make provision for a sub-quota for the women belonging to Muslim, other minority and marginalized sections within a week, we will launch a mass movement.” “The movement will start from Kerala”, Dr. Alam told press persons.
On this occasion, a booklet titled “Documents: Movement for a Sub Quota within Women Quota” was also released. The booklet documents Milli Council’s stand and efforts for sub-quota for the Muslim and other marginalized women in Women Reservation Bill.
