Jaitley predicts regime change in Tamil Nadu

By IANS,

Chennai : Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley Monday said the DMK government in Tamil Nadu will be voted out of power in the April 13 elections as it faced twin anti-incumbency waves.

“The first is against the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government at the centre for corruption, price rise and drift in functioning. The second is against the DMK government in the state, which is one of the most corrupt governments that India has seen,” Jaitley told reporters here.

According to him, the DMK was tackling the assault on corruption by corrupt means – by bribing the voters.

“You cannot fool all the people all the time is the silver lining in a democracy. Tamil Nadu will see a change,” he said.

According to Jaitley, the upcoming elections in four states and union territory of Puducherry will be a major setback for the Congress and the Left parties.

He was confident of the BJP increasing its vote share in Tamil Nadu and have a decent presence in the 234-member assembly.

Jaitley alleged that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) tailored its investigation into the 2G spectrum allocation scam by keeping the Tamil Nadu poll dates in mind.

According to him, the charge sheet filed by the CBI in the case April 2 was disturbing as it did not include the money received by Kalaignar TV.

Eighty percent stake in the channel is held by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi’s wife M.K. Dayalu and daughter Kanimozhi.

Jaitley said the CBI need not give clean chit to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and should focus on the criminality of the case.

He said the prime minister has allowed the scam to take place even when it was suggested that the spectrum should be auctioned.

Jaitley added that Manmohan Singh was guilty in this conspiracy of silence.
