AMU Tennis team wins North Zone tournament

Aligarh: The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) tennis team won the North Zone Intervarsity Tennis (Men’s) Tournament for the third time beating Punjab University, Patiala in the finals at DCR University, Murthal, Haryana.

AMU won both singles and doubles matches in straight sets. In the singles, AMU’s captain, Shadab defeated PUP’s Uday (6-4, 6-1) while AMU’s Lakshit defeated PUP’s Suraj (6-2, 6-1). The clean sweep concluded in the doubles match after Lakshit and Shadab of AMU beat Uday and Suraj of PUP 6-3, 6-1. The finals of the tournament were played on October 29, a release said here.

Meanwhile, the AMU Lawn Tennis team reached the finals of the North Zone Intervarsity Tennis tournament after beating MDU Rohtak 3-1. Earlier in the quarterfinal, the AMU defeated Punjab University, Chandigarh 3-1.

With the victory, AMU has registered three North Zone Intervarsity Tennis tournaments triumphs in the past four years.

Prof Mohammad Shoaib Zaheer, Secretary University Games Committee and Prof Amjad Masood, President AMU Tennis Club congratulated team members, manager of the team Anisur Rehman and Captain Mohammad Shadab Khan on the win, Zeeshan Ahmad, assistant public relations officer, AMU said in the release.
