The delegation led by Ex-M.P. and IUML president G.M. Banatwala urged the Governor to convey to the Central Government the demand to prosecute Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and all others who have confessedly aided and abetted in carrying out the carnage. An appeal has been made that the Modi government be dismissed and Gujarat be brought under President Rule as " the sanctity of the rule of law is under threat and governance as per the Constitution is under subversion."

Presenting a detailed memorandum, the delegation pointed out that the Tehelka expose gives graphic details coming from the mouths of the perpetrators of ghastly crimes themselves and the support lent by the Chief Minister and others.

"Earlier, the Supreme Court had called the Chief Minister a ‘modern Nero’. His alleged involvement shows him in still worse position," states the memorandum.

The delegation has demanded that Modi and others be debarred from the right to vote or to contest elections, that full tapes of the expose be obtained, that action be taken to cancel the bail obtained by all those accused and to get all riot-related cases transferred to courts outside Gujarat, that protection is assured to all witnesses, that prosecution be conducted by efficient and impartial prosecutors and that relief and rehabilitation work is completed expeditiously under central supervision.

Besides IUML president, the delegation included State office bearers Habib Khan, Imran Qureshi, Mohammed Ismail Banatwala, Mohammed Yusuf Mujawar, Shaikh Mohammed, Karim Dhagewale, Mehmood P.K. Manikhot, and M.C. Ibrahim.
