In an exclusive interview with the official website of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games on the occasion of the one-year countdown to the Games, Sun Weijia, director of BOCOG Media Operations Department, made these remarks.

“World-class hardware equipments will be provided at the Main Press Center (MPC), International Broadcast Center (IBC), the Media Villages and Venue Media Centers (VMCs).” he said.

According to Sun, the organizers are striving to organize broadband and digital Olympics.

A number of new technologies such as “intelligent” optical networks, new-generation wireless intranet and broadband accessibility will support telecommunications for the Beijing Olympics.

He said the “Broadband Olympics” mean a broadband- technology-based telecommunication service system, which will facilitate comprehensive and personalized multi-media telecommunications, in addition to information services covering volunteer recruitment, ticketing, competition schedule, transportation, tourism, accommodation and many other areas. Wireless services cover work zones of MPC, VMCs, IBC and Media Villages.

As far as the “Green Olympics” are concerned, all media hotels and other facilities will have to meet official environmental standards. BOCOG asked all its suppliers and facility constructors to abide by its strict environmental rules.

“We are even thinking of making media desks of paper, thus conveying the concept of Green Olympics,” said Sun.

The two major media working places, the MPC and IBC will be decorated with traditional Chinese elements, including colors, characters, paintings and sculptures, he added.
