London : Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard decided to postpone talks over a new contract with the club despite insisting that he intends to stay on.
Lampard, who has two years left on his current deal, revealed Thursday that he had put talks on hold until the end of the new season to concentrate on his game.
“Now that the season has started, I have told the club I do not really want to get involved in negotiations while I am playing football,” said the 29-year-old.
“That’s because this is a big season for me and for the club.”
The England midfielder was adamant he wanted to finish his career at Stamford Bridge, but also admitted that there were still issues over his deal.
“Unfortunately we have had problems with the negotiations. They have gone on a long time,” he said.
“I hope it gets sorted and that it gets sorted soon, at the end of the season, or the next time we talk – and the club know that.”
Lampard also denied fresh links with a move to Spanish side Barcelona, saying “My intention is to stay.”
“I’ve got two years left on my contract. I want to stay for the rest of my career. It’s as simple as that.”
He insisted that divergence over a new contract was not a money issue.
“Some figures get bandied about, inflated figures, maybe that’s done on purpose – but a lot of that’s not true,” he said.
“Certainly the issues I’ve got with the club aren’t to do with money.
“This is going to be my last contract, which will see me through my career, so I want to get it right.”
