Thousand of vehicles, including passenger vehicles, were stranded on both sides of Nandni Bridge, official sources told News Agency of Kashmir.

The sources said that the landslides, triggered by heavy rains, blocked one tube of Sukhetra-Nandni tunnel at around 0200 hours.

Though most of the vehicles were stopped near Nagrota on Jammu side and Udhampur on Srinagar side, sources said that thousands of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the tunnel.

Border Road Organisation has pressed its men and machinery to clear the Highway, they added.

Sources said that the traffic was allowed to move on both sides of the tunnel using one tube. However, the measure added chaos as heavy traffic jams further blocked the movement of the vehicles.

The tunnel remained closed for more than two days, earlier this week, following the land slides. The two way traffic on resumed only on Thursday.
