Bangalore : An MRI scan on Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar came out clean but the bowler still has muscle spasms that allowed him to bowl only 10 overs on the opening day of the third and final Test match against India here Saturday.
“The MRI was clean. But he had muscle spasms and would take no further part in the day’s play,” Pakistani team’s media co-ordinator Javed Akhtar Siddiqui told reporters at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium.
Akhtar, who bowled fast but with a waist belt tied under his shirt, went out of the field a few times before finally being taken to a local hospital for the scan.
“We will assess his condition tomorrow morning and decide if he can play (any further in the match),” he said.
The team physiotherapist Faisal Hayat gave the 32-year-old bowler treatment on the sidelines during the match, but the pain did not subside.
Although Akhtar, playing his 46th Test, returned to the field after lunch interval, but went out again within minutes of the play resuming.
Akhtar has taken 177 wickets at an average of 25.59 in his chequered career.
