Baghdad : The police chief of central Iraq’s Babel province Major-General Qais al-Mamouri was killed along with two of his bodyguards when a roadside bomb struck his convoy Sunday, a police said.
Al-Mamouri was killed when the roadside bomb hit his vehicle near the provincial capital of Hilla, some 100 km south of Baghdad.
Two of his guards were killed and six wounded in the attack. Local authorities imposed curfew in the city of Hilla after the assassination of al-Mamouri.
Babel province has long been a hotbed of insurgency and sectarian violence between the Shia and Sunni Muslim community.
