Delhi witnessed a minimum of 12.1 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal, Tuesday. The maximum temperature recorded was 20.6 degrees, three degrees below normal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

“Rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining areas led to cold wave conditions in Delhi. Things have improved a little, hence there is some respite today,” said an IMD official.

On Dec 11, last year, Delhi had witnessed a maximum of 22 degrees and a minimum of 9 degrees Celsius.

On Sunday, Delhi experienced its lowest temperature of the season with the mercury touching 6.8 degrees. On Monday, the minimum was 8.8 degrees.

“The last two days were really bad. The sudden temperature drop forced us to stay indoors on Sunday,” said Susant Kumar, a bank employee.

“Though it is better today, but the temperature could drop again soon. We are not going out without adequate woollens and a muffler, especially during morning and evening hours,” Kumar said.

Meanwhile, the weatherman said the national capital on Wednesday will experience a cloudy sky and the minimum will revolve around 10 degrees.

Isolated rain and snow is likely over the western Himalayas Thursday evening. The development will also be witnessed in Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Haryana, the IMD said.

“This may force the mercury to fall further in the capital,” an IMD official said.
