Bangladesh to shun Eid, New Year revelry

Dhaka(IANS) : There will be no New Years’ revelry on the streets of Dhaka and other major towns of Bangladesh in view of the devastating cyclone last month, which left thousands dead and millions homeless, local media reported Wednesday.

The decision, by the inter-ministerial committee of the government dealing with law and order, is also prompted by security considerations. The security agencies have been asked to curb illegal alcohol trade that spurts during the run up to the New Year’s eve Dec 31, the Daily Star reported.
