Baghdad(Xinhua) : At least 39 people were killed and 125 injured in a triple car bomb attack Wednesday in Amara, capital of Iraq’s Maysan province, 360 km southeast of Baghdad, the interior ministry said.
“Our latest reports from the province said that 39 people were killed and some 125 were wounded in the attack in Amara earlier in the day,” a ministry spokesman said.
The first car bomb exploded shortly after 10:00 a.m. (GMT 0700) in a parking lot in the Dijla thoroughfare, the source said.
A few minutes later, a second car bomb went off outside the parking lot, where many people had gathered to examine the damage from the first blast.
Shortly after, the third car bomb detonated near the gate of a movie theatre in the locality.
The toll is expected to rise as many of the victims sustained severe injuries, the source added.
In a separate incident, a roadside bomb went off in Kirkuk, some 250 km north of Baghdad, wounding a civilian.
