Gaza : Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh on Wednesday decried Israeli targeted assassination of Palestinian youth and called for ceasefire.
Speaking at a football field in Gaza City to honour memories of 13 Palestinians martyred during Israeli air raids late Monday and Tuesday, he said that the Palestinians observe the al-Adha feast differently from those in other Muslim nations.
“With martyrs, with members of resistance dying, because of the crimes of the Zionist occupation, the assassinations that do not stop. We greet it with tears in our eyes, and sadness in our hearts,” Haniyeh said.
Hamas has been trying to stop the rocket fire coming from Gaza, group spokesman Taher Nunu said Wednesday, complaining that the Zionist regime’s targeted assassinations have hampered his attempts.
The prime minister criticised Palestine National Authority officials for cooperating with Israel and accused them of turning their backs on Gaza.
He appealed to PNA chief Mahmoud Abbas to seek reconciliation between Hamas and the Fatah movement.
“Our message to the sons of our nation is a message of reconciliation and agreement, and unity,” he said.
“I hope these words reach the hearts there in the West Bank. I hope people there stop their policies and reconsider these dangerous and destructive policies to our society and stop exchanging roles with the enemy in confronting their own people, and the resistance faction groups.
“Stop auctioning the land and dignity,” he said.
