Madrid : Valencia are starting to have doubts about signing Lucho Gonzalez, according to sports papers Marca and AS Saturday. The two papers claim that Valencia have been put off by FC Porto asking for at least 16 million euros ($22.1 million) for Gonzalez.
New Valencia sporting director Miguel Angel Ruiz is unwilling to spend so much on a midfielder, and has turned his attention to Kim Kallstrom of Lyon. Wesley Sneijder of Ajax is another alternative, but Valencia coach Quique Sanchez Flores seems unconvinced.
On Friday, Valencia presented to the media their fourth summer signing, former Spain defender Ivan Helguera. Helguera, 32, has arrived on a free transfer from Real Madrid and has signed a three-year contract. Valencia's other three signings are Timo Hildebrand (Vfb Stuttgart), Alexis Ruano (Getafe) and Javier Arizmendi (Deportivo Coruna).
