Chandigarh to promote gender education in colleges

Chandigarh : Teachers and students of colleges here will take part in a campaign that will educate them about gender issues.

A spokesman of the Chandigarh administration said Sunday that the first of its kind campaign would be launched Monday for five days.

Forty-eight teachers from various city colleges will be exposed to gender related issues during a workshop to be conducted by a NGO, Jagori.

The teachers trained at the workshop will later carry the campaign to the colleges to disseminate information to the students and help them in tackling gender concerns.

The campaign is aimed at overcoming gender norms that assign greater value to the male child and negative attributes to the girl and work towards having a more equal society.
