US President welcomes election roadmap and anti corruption drive in Bangladesh

Washington : US Pesident George W Bush has welcomed the election road map and praised Bangladesh government's effort to "sticking to its promise to hold elections
in 2008".

He also assured all possible US help "in any way" for the upcoming elections.

Terming Bangladesh as an "example of moderate and tolerant Muslim nation", Bush said Bangladesh has "affirmed and re-affirmed its dedication to democratic principles in numerous
elections".

Bush appreciated the role of current caretaker government for its trend setting initiatives for reforming the process of governance in Bangladesh said "we support your efforts to fight corruption and collect taxes".

He conveyed these sentiments while receiving new Ambassador of Bangladesh to United States of America M. Humayun Kabir in a credential presentation ceremony at the White House on Wednesday.

While accepting the Letter of Credence in a simple ceremony, Bush showed his warmth towards Bangladesh by saying "Bangladesh and USA shared same democratic values and is
committed to working together to strengthen partnership" for "economic development as well as fighting terrorism".

In response to Ambassador's request for granting duty free and quota free access to Bangladeshi garment products to USA, Bush assured of his support for Bangladesh cause and
commended the "steps taken by the Bangladesh government to restore the foundations of Bangladesh economy".

Appreciating Bangladesh's achievements in alleviating poverty, he assured continued US support for the economic development of Bangladesh.

Ambassador Kabir conveyed to President Bush the warm greetings and personal regards of President of Bangladesh Professor Dr. Iajuddin Ahmed and Chief Adviser Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed and from the friendly people of Bangladesh.
