Mohammed Shamim, 36, was brought here in the morning on transit remand by sleuths of the crime branch.

Shamim was arrested in Hyderabad July 5 for his alleged links in the human trafficking scam, and he was sent in judicial custody by a court there.

"We have sought his presence to further investigate the case as he used to contact on behalf of another travel agent Sunder Lal Gampa people in Gujarat and Hyderabad who wanted to go abroad illegally," Deputy Commissioner of Police A.S. Cheema said.

Gampa was arrested with two of his accomplices in the capital April 24. Police have so far arrested five travel agents.

Cheema said Shamim was produced in a city court, which sent him in one-day police custody. "We will produce him again in the court to seek his remand for some more time."

The human trafficking scam came to light with the arrest of Katara April 18 from the international airport here while he was allegedly trying to smuggle out a woman and a teenager on the passports of his family members.
