Mumbai : The many trials and tribulations in the life of Sanjay Dutt, who was sentenced to six years' rigorous imprisonment in the 1993 Mumbai bombings case:

1959: Sanjay is born to Sunil and Nargis Dutt.

1964: Leaves for Lawrence School, Sanawar, in Himachal Pradesh.

1981: Mother Nargis Dutt dies after long battle with cancer soon after his debut release "Rocky".

1982: Second release "Vidhaata" hits the screens amid talk of Sanjay's drug addiction.

1986: Sanjay's first big hit "Naam", released after his return from a drug rehabilitation centre in Texas, US.

1987: Marries actress Richa Sharma.

1989: Daughter Trishala is born.

1990: Blockbuster "Thanedar" with Madhuri Dixit.

1991: Two big hits, "Saajan" and "Sadak".

1992: Gets his first Filmfare best actor nomination for "Saajan".

1993: Jailed under TADA for suspected involvement in Mumbai serial blasts.

1995: Comes out of jail after 16 months imprisonment.

1996: Wife Richa Sharma dies after brain tumour.

1998: Marries model Rhea Pillai. Hit film "Dushman" releases in the same year.

1999: Another blockbuster "Vaastav: The Reality" releases.

2000: Wins Filmfare best actor award for "Vaastav: The Reality".

2001: Features in comedy "Jodi No. 1" with Govinda.

2002: Appears in friend Sanjay Gupta's crime thriller "Kaante".

2003: Delivers a superhit with "Munnabhai M.B.B.S."

2005: Father Sunil Dutt dies. Separates from second wife Rhea Pillai.

2006: Convicted under Arms Act for the Mumbai blasts but cleared of terror charges. Makes a huge impression with "Lage Raho Munna Bhai".

2007: Sentenced to six years in prison and fined Rs.25,000

Incomplete films – "Mr. Fraud", "Kidnap" and "Alibaug". Ready for release – "Dhamaal".
