Rehabilitation of NVPAFs top priority : MP CM

 Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has reaffirmed that judicious rehabilitation of Narmada Valley Project Affected Families, (NVPAFs), was top priority to the state government.
    Apprising himself of the rehabilitation status of the Narmada Valley projects with higher officials of Narmada Valley Development Authority, (NVDA), here the other day Chouhan asked the officers for close monitoring of rehabilitation activities with a view to look in to the problems of NVPAFs, an official Press release said.
    The Vice Chairman NVDA Uday Kumar Varma informed that rehabilitation pertaining to 189 m. water level of Omkareshwar dam project had been completed . Field staff has been geared up for rehabilitation of the remaining families in OSP reservoir area up to the 30th June. He informed that 30 villages would be affected at the F.R.L.196.60 m. of Omkareshwar Dam. Out of total 4531 affected families pertaining to these villages only 1465 families remained to be shifted.    
    Varma said that even after getting compensation and rehabilitation grants some families may still inhibit in the reservoir area. These families would be motivated to shift to rehabilitation sites. Looking at the ensuing monsoon contingency plan would also be exercise for the areas of possible submergence under Omkareshwar, Indira Sagar and Sardar Sarovar Project. The contingency plan includes shifting the families from the reservoir area to temporary camps and giving them needful assistance. He said that officers have been directed to prepare video graphic record of each vacated village so to identify the encroachers.
    It may be mentioned here that Omkareshwar hydle power project dam has been completed with power generating units. The closing of gates would enable to fill the reservoir. The project would create 520 M.W. powers potential. Power Contribution from the Omkareshwar hydle power project would be a big leap towards the goal of self sufficiency of the state in power sector.
