Agartala : India's border with Pakistan and Bangladesh was safe with relations between the countries improving considerably, Border Security Force (BSF) director general (DG) Ashish Kumar Mitra Tuesday said.
"I personally feel that both Pakistan and Bangladesh have realised the need to improve relations with India, avoid the hostile attitude and boost economic activities including border trade," the BSF commander, who is on a four-day visit to Tripura, said.
He said the situation along India's border with Bangladesh was 'fairly satisfactory'.
"Various types of border crimes have come down. Let us see how long the Bangladesh government's positive attitude continues," Mitra said.
"For the first time in the recent DG-level meeting, Bangladesh has not denied the presence of militants from northeast India in their territory," he said.
"Separatists are on the run now with their comfortable shelter in that country over and the ultras are being chased continuously."
He, however, said two Bangladeshi politicians, including a former Awami League MP, were detained by the BSF in west Tripura border.
"We shall review the situation and the action taken by the Bangladesh government against the Indian militants in the next BSF-BDR DG-level meeting to be held in Dhaka in November," the BSF official said.
