Additional Sessions Judge Ravinder Kaur sent Salem to Tihar in judicial custody after the police said he was no longer needed for interrogation in the cases.

Salem, who was extradited from Portugal and is facing trial in Mumbai for masterminding and funding the March 1993 serial blasts, was brought here May 21. He faced 18 days of intensive interrogation by Delhi Police for his alleged role in the three cases of extortion.

A day later, he was remanded to the custody of Delhi Police Special Cell for seven days in connection with a Rs.10 million extortion bid from Rajat Nagrath, the owner of Allied Communications, a business firm in south Delhi's East of Kailash.

After that came four days of interrogation on charges of extorting money from a businessman at the instance of Dawood's Ibrahim's Delhi-based alleged front man Romesh Sharma.

As Salem's four days remand ended Friday, he was questioned for seven days for his role in extorting Rs.50 million from a south Delhi businessman Ashok Gupta.

With Salem's work here over, Mumbai Police are likely to approach the Delhi court to have him back in Mumbai to face trial in the court hearing the blasts case.
