The teacher, Hariom Narayan Vyas, died in the state's Bhind district on Saturday when the neighbouring Gwalior district recorded 45.8 degrees Celsius, the hottest day this summer in the state. The heat wave is likely to continue for three-four days, the weatherman said.

"The state will have to wait for at least five more days before the monsoon arrives," said S.K. Dubey, director of the state met department. "The monsoon should reach Bhopal on June 15, but there could be some relief from June 14 midnight onwards."

The state capital recorded its highest June temperature at 43.2 degrees Celsius, five notches above normal, on Saturday. Hot winds blew across the city in the evening.

The sweltering heat affected normal life in the state.

Satna recorded 45 degrees Celsius, followed by Jabalpur at 44 degrees, Rewa 43 and Indore 41.2 degrees Celsius. The minimum varied from between 27 to 36 degrees Celsius in various places.

Rewa, Jabalpur, Sagar and Gwalior divisions were under heat wave conditions.

Showers accompanied by lightning are expected in Jabalpur on Monday.

"Pre monsoon showers are likely in the next few days as cloud formation is taking shape in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea," said a met official.
