Government wheat procurement ends in Haryana

Chandigarh : Various agencies of the central government and the Haryana government purchased 3.34 million tonnes of wheat this year as the current procurement season came to an end.

The procurement by six government agencies that started early April ended Friday evening.

Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan, who is also the food and supplies minister, said nearly 90 percent of the wheat stocks coming to grain markets in the state were purchased by central and state procurement agencies.

The total arrival of wheat this season was 3.70 million tonnes. Private traders and companies purchased 363,000 tonnes this time.

Haryana's procurement agency Hafed purchased 1.28 million tonnes of stock, followed by 813,000 tonnes by the food and supplies department. The Food Corporation of India (FCI), a central agency, procured 349,000 tonnes.

Among Haryana's 20 districts, Sirsa had the highest wheat arrival of 671,000 tonnes.
