The League’s spokesman Alaa Al-Hadidi said Tuesday the meeting also shed light on the meeting of the International Compact on Iraq to be held Thursday, adding that meetings for Iraq’s neighbouring states, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) members, and the G-8 industrial states were focused on during discussions.

Preparatory meetings for Sharm El-Sheikh conference will start Wednesday on the level of heads of delegation followed by two meetings for the International Compact on Iraq meeting, indicated the official.

According to press sources, the Sharm El-Sheikh conference would be the largest international effort to bring peace to Iraq with foreign ministers of several states in addition to representatives of regional and international organisations attending the event.

The International Compact on Iraq meeting was suggested by US President George W. Bush last January in order to find a lasting partnership between Iraq and the international community.
